So, I was reading
this article, and I was thinking to myself: why Britney Spears? Why anyone at all for that matter? I respect Ms. Hays for what she has gone through, don't get me wrong, and it's great that she had role models to help her, but did she lose sight of herself at some point? She declared herself to be a girl, right? And yet she's trying to look like Britney Spears? I think she lost sight of something along the way. It's great to have a role model, and it's great to refer to them as a basis for what path you want to take, but the base isn't the end, is it? She should be herself, and that means looking like herself. If she wants to look
like Britney Spears, that's fine, then she can be herself as Britney Spears, but it seems as though she's trying to be Britney Spears. She says she is being true to herself, and I want to believe her, I really do, as I have respect for anyone willing to come out so young and work so hard to her goals (something I, myself, could not do). I hope she makes sure she remains true to herself, for that's what identifying as transgender is about (at least for me); it's about being oneself.
What do the rest of you think? Is she being true to herself? Is being oneself the point of being transgender? Feel free to weigh in; I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this (especially if you're a fellow TG).
