Being True to Yourself
« on: July 24, 2012, 20:48 »
So, I was reading this article, and I was thinking to myself: why Britney Spears? Why anyone at all for that matter? I respect Ms. Hays for what she has gone through, don't get me wrong, and it's great that she had role models to help her, but did she lose sight of herself at some point? She declared herself to be a girl, right? And yet she's trying to look like Britney Spears? I think she lost sight of something along the way. It's great to have a role model, and it's great to refer to them as a basis for what path you want to take, but the base isn't the end, is it? She should be herself, and that means looking like herself. If she wants to look like Britney Spears, that's fine, then she can be herself as Britney Spears, but it seems as though she's trying to be Britney Spears. She says she is being true to herself, and I want to believe her, I really do, as I have respect for anyone willing to come out so young and work so hard to her goals (something I, myself, could not do). I hope she makes sure she remains true to herself, for that's what identifying as transgender is about (at least for me); it's about being oneself.

What do the rest of you think? Is she being true to herself? Is being oneself the point of being transgender? Feel free to weigh in; I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this (especially if you're a fellow TG).

Hm... she's trying a little bit too much to be Britney, I think, or maybe there's just too much emphasis on it. Anyone putting that much money into emulating someone's appearance might have a problem, though.

Yeah, she really doesn't need to change her hair and get fancy makeup to change appearances so often to be herself. I think she should do a little soul searching and remember what it is she really wants.

I think... You read a heck of a lot of article, Blue xD

Hmm... I dunno. I don't have much of an opinion on this because I'm not TG.

However.

I do like cute clothes and I wish guys could walk around in skirts instead of only getting to wear them in their room when nobody is looking and then they wanna jump out of a window. That is all.

It helps that my friends here are supportive of me. I doubt I'd be able to do it without them. After you do it once, though, it's not so bad. You don't get all nervous about what people are going to think. No one said a thing to me; I doubt anyone really cared.

Onion, you should totally just go out one day in a dress. Just go out there and do it. Who cares what others think? Just do it because you want to!
