An article at NextMovie.com reports that pundits, on both sides of the aisle unfortunately, are drawing parallels between the villain in the new Batman movie and Mitt Romney. The villain, Bane, is evidently a terrorist who attacks Gotham's wealthy and elite. Evidently there has been some discussion of the fact that the character has a name pronounced the same as Romney's former company, Bain Capital and suggestions that people might see the storyline of the villain as similar to Romney's life. One such comment is quoted here:
Quote
In fact, Democratic strategist Christopher Lehane, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, made that connection himself earlier this week, despite the fact that Bane has been battling Batman in the comics since 1993.

"It has been observed that movies can reflect the national mood. Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on pillaging society."
Rush Limbaugh, however, seems to have taken the criticism a step beyond the pale, as he usually does, and suggests that the naming of the character was an intentional attack on Romney, despite the fact mentioned in the above quote that the character has been in Batman comics since 1993!
Quote
"Do you think that it is accidental, that the name of the really vicious, fire-breathing, four-eyed, whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane," pundit Rush Limbaugh asked on his radio show according to Entertainment Weekly. "There's now discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful, and whether or not it will influence voters.

"This movie, the audience is going to be huge, lot of people are going to see the movie," he continued. "And it's a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop-culture crowd. And they're going to hear 'Bane' in the movie, and they are going to associate Bain. And the thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, not Bain Capital, but Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie ? 'Oh yeah, I know who that is.' There are some people who think it will work. There are some people think it will work. Others think ? 'You're really underestimating the American people who think that will work.'"
This is just complete and total idiocy! Whether people will see parallels between the movie and the presidential candidate I can't say, not having seen the movie or read the comics with the character. However, the suggestion that the character was named specifically to bring about these comparisons, or that the Obama campaign's use of Bain instead of Bain Capital is somehow an intentional attempt to make people equate the movie villain with Romney and people will think that it is really the character that they are talking about is complete BS! It wouldn't take more than 10 minutes to google the character and read all you need to know to verify that it is an existing character in the comic and its name cannot possibly have anything to do with Romney's old partners in pillage! It is also massively insulting to the science fiction/comic fan community to suggest that we are the type of brain-dead people that this will work on! I guess he hasn't figured out that geeks are actually the smart people and it is his listeners that are the idiots!

Every time Rush Limbaugh opens his mouth, he shoves his foot right on in. To see him say something like this isn't all that surprising. He should have been pulled off the air after his derogatory remarks on Sandra Fluke, but no, people keep paying him money to stay on the air.

If people want to draw parallels, let them. If Romney is so bad that he could be compared to a villain in a movie, then perhaps he should reflect on the mistakes of his past and try change himself for the better. This won't help his campaign, of course. Doing the right thing would mean he's have to change his political party.

Will someone just take him off the air already? The garbage he comes up with knows no bounds. Seriously, the guy needs to try thinking before speaking once in a while.

The sad truth is that as long as there are people out there who enjoy listening to his trash, he'll have the funding needed to stay on the air. Even the outrage against his comments on Sandra Fluke wasn't enough to get rid of him for good. :you seem to be seri
