Bulgaria Bus Explosion

SOFIA, Bulgaria ? A bomb exploded on a bus carrying Israeli youth in a Bulgarian resort Wednesday, killing at least six people and wounding 32, officials said. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it "an Iranian terror attack" and promised a tough response.

The explosion took place in the Black Sea city of Burgas, some 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of the capital, Sofia. TV images showed smoke billowing from the scene ? a parking lot at the local airport where the Israeli tourists had landed shortly before the blast. Several buses and cars were on fire near the shell of the exploded vehicle.

This is just insane. People going on vacation killed by extremists, just to make a point. I don't want to join the bandwagon of people pointing at Iran without some kind of evidence, though history would lend itself to that conclusion. Tehran's silence on the issue certainly is rather foreboding by itself. My heart goes out to families of the victims in this act of terrorism. Hopefully there will be some answers coming soon to help explain just why this happened, and lead to punishment being dealt to those responsible.

Oh my... that's terrible. They were just going on vacation, too. Some people will just stoop to whatever lows they can to hurt people when they think they are right.

It's a rough work out there, unfortunately.

An update:

Quote
United States intelligence officials said on Thursday that there is no evidence to support a report that Mehdi Ghezali, a Swedish citizen and former detainee at Guantanamo Bay from 2002 to 2004, is responsible for Wednesday's suicide attack in Burgas, Bulgaria. The Times of Israel reported that Bulgarian media named Ghezali as the suspect, but the report could not be independently verified.

Swedish officials denied the report early Thursday afternoon, and Bulgarian officials told ABC News that the suspect's name was reported incorrectly.

There certainly is a resemblance in the photo taken from the airport to Ghezali, but I think the skin tone is a little off. I suppose we won't know for sure until forensics are done looking over the same they were able to recover from the bombers body. If it was indeed him, it would at least pull Iran off the list of nations to blame.

I dunno, I mean, his skin tone would look different under different lighting, and who knows how he may have aged since the last time his picture was taken. They'll know for sure soon enough, though.

This is true. Well, I would be more comfortable knowing that Iran is in no way responsible; I would rather there not be anything come up that would result in more cries for the US to go to war with Iran.

You have a point, as long as we don't end up in another voluntary war. The country really doesn't need that right now, not while we're trying to pull out of the Middle East.

Exactly; we really don't need to go jump into another war of choice.

We need to keep focusing on bringing our troops home. I know you would feel better knowing your cousins are back at home, rather than off in Afghanistan doing more fighting.

I would feel better if they were back home, here, where they don't have to worry about being killed so much.

As much? Well, there are dangers with living here, I suppose.

Yeah, as I've found from looking up local crime logs. Stuff can still happen, but with military experience, I'm sure they'll be much better prepared to handle civilian dangers.
