Transgender at Five
« on: May 21, 2012, 07:24 »
Quote
Kathryn wanted pants. And short hair. Then trucks and swords.

Her parents, Jean and Stephen, were fine with their toddler?s embrace of all things boy. They?ve both been school teachers and coaches in Maryland and are pretty immune to the quirky stuff that kids do.

But it kept getting more intense, all this boyishness from their younger daughter. She began to argue vehemently ? as only a tantrum-prone toddler can ? that she was not a girl.

?I am a boy,? the child insisted, at just 2 years old.

This article really hits home for me. I have to wonder how different my life would be if I was born a couple years ago, as opposed to when I was. Perhaps in an atmosphere that was more accepting, I would have not had to hide myself for so long. I'm glad to see "Tyler's" parents are accepting of what he is, and are being supportive of it. As he said, he is a boy. He should be allowed to live as one. Even children at his age have a way of knowing what they are and what they aren't. I personally understand that feeling of something not being right. I even had a couple dreams about it, to help aid the thoughts of my conscious mind. I feel for the teenager brought up at the end of the article. It had to have been hard for her to have been constantly forced to "man up" because of her physical gender. I can only hope that all parents of transgendered children can learn to be as accepting as Tyler's parents; they're an example for all to follow.

I hope everyone can learn from this. People like you and Tyler are people, just like everyone else. You should be treated with the same respect and dignity.

I agree completely. One day, I'm sure the majority of the people in the world will finally agree.

I'm glad everyone here is okay with it. Well, Gen is kinda obligated, given how she is TG.

Yeah. I've pretty much come to the conclusion I'm a hermaphrodite (I think that's the right term) stuck in a purely male body. :high:

I... really don't know. My personality is for sure bigender; I have a very strong male identity, as well as an equally strong female identity. Becoming a hermaphrodite would probably be the best way to match my body to my mind. That, and I don't want all of me cut off and inverted; I feel uneasy about that one part getting removed, but I'm not bothered at all at the thought of the other changes. I should probably consult with a therapist at some point, just like Tyler's parents did for Tyler.

Thanks. Yeah, I'll ask around for good therapists to see, then get some money together and what not.
