Title: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Cirno on May 22, 2012, 07:23
This is a fun self-insert 4-koma by Mizuki Hitoshi, replacing himself and all his friends with Touhou characters! It's a fun little series to read. Gen got a chance to meet him at this years Anime Boston.
Here's the pool on danbooru: http://danbooru.donmai.us/pool/show/2420 (caution, ads are NSFW)
And here's today's strip: http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1170467/
The current arc has Mizuki portraying his events in Boston with Gen and the northeast Touhou group! In this strip, Kogasa-san is pushing a deadline...

I was hoping you would think to make a thread on this. I love this strip; I've been reading it and commenting on it everyday for the past few weeks. Too bad we can't really hotlink, but putting links to the strips works.

So, trying to put up the new strips a little faster. Today's strip: http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1171824 Today, Kogasa's attention is on a Nue cosplayer, however, someone doesn't seem to like that too much...
Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 23, 2012, 22:00
There were quite a few of us there, I'm glad to see Mizuki-san honored the best of the group by drawing them in the group panels. That Nue cosplayer was awesome! If you told me she was the real deal, I would have believed it. Too bad her wings were damaged by the end of the con, though, she has a better set that she didn't bring out to AB, from what I heard. She has a DA page here: http://ayatonyaa.deviantart.com/ There's a picture of her and Mizuki-san together here: http://ayatonyaa.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=24#/d4vtd87
I can't wait to see what Mizuki-san brings up in tomorrow's strip. :meaw:

Wow, she really does look like Nue! It's one of those costumes where red-eye from the camera flash actually makes it look better.

Today's strip: http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1172463 Featuring "Yu From Japan," the excited Japanese lady. (You can see her in the video here: http://youtu.be/5kiW9VybA4Y?t=7m58s)
Apparently Gen is now "Hunky Momiji," according to the comments on Pixiv
Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 24, 2012, 21:34
I remember her; she was really excited to see all of us, really excited. She was fun, though. :meaw: As for "Hunky Momiji," well... I'm not sure what to think about that. It's like... eat a giant hamburger --> become small scale celebrity. I hope Momi's (cosplayer name) costume get's enough attention; she had the better costume between the two of us.

Post by: Cirno on May 25, 2012, 07:14
I guess a lot of people thought you and the hamburger thing was funny. I do hope all the cosplayers get a chance to sign. You guys all did such a wonderful job! (I think I like shotgunbrella Tokiko the best. That's just pure awesome!)

Kogasa karaoke time!
I like UK's little rant about how poorly karaoke at AB was run. They really should have managed it a little better; hopefully it won't be an issue next year. :XD:

I'm really late today!
Today's post: http://danbooru.donmai.us/post/show/1173753 Today, Kogasa-san is about to hit the stage, or is she?
Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 27, 2012, 07:11
That really was a poorly run Karaoke. I didn't realize how nervous Mizuki-san was (assuming he isn't exaggerating it too much for the strip). I guess it did end up working out better in the end.

Post by: Cirno on May 27, 2012, 07:27
It's a shame they had so many problems! They should have run it better. Were the people running it this year new, or something?

Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 28, 2012, 07:06
I didn't know Mizuki-san wanted to go to the concerts. Well, then again, we only knew what Sola told us, since he was the only person in our group who was fluent in Japanese. Hopefully he'll get a chance to see some of the concerts the next time we invite him over. (I hope there will be a next time!)

Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 28, 2012, 17:24
So many of us were drawn today! I'm not sure if I'm the Momiji in the picture or not. I know I was sitting next to a Yukari cosplayer at the panel, so I think it was me, but others think it was Momi. He make sure to indicate it was a different Yoshika, but he didn't draw Momiji with long hair, so I dunno. I don't want to say anything about it, because I don't want my comments voted down in backlash. :XD:

Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on May 29, 2012, 19:39
My comments are still getting down voted for no reason, and the mod I talked to about it can't do anything about it. The lead admin won't do anything about it, though he's probably the only one who could. Urgh; something that we can all have fun with, and someone has to go and ruin it.
Everyone really did raise their hands in the room, except for maybe two, three people. I think they didn't raise their hands, because they didn't hear the question. Someone asked Mizuki-san if he brought some doujin to sell to use, but he didn't have anything with him. Maybe next time, if there is a way for him to do it, he'll be able to bring over some stuff to sell. I'm sure he'll sell most of what he brings. :meaw:

The "rain woman" never did make it rain, at least not very hard. There were some sprinkles as we were leaving on Sunday. I thought it was about to start pouring, thinking the "Kogasa effect" was waiting for us to go outside, since everything connected to the con was indoors. It was just sprinkles, though, never did rain. :XD:

Everyone wants to know about the wife, but Mizuki-san's not telling... under threat of house arrest! (I think he mentioned something about Sanae-wife not letting him go to any more conventions if he said who she was.) The jokes about her being Depth Bomb made it even better (if it was true, could you imagine the fear she would have placed in his heart of saying a single thing?).

Ha ha, he got drawn as a Sin sack, with Sin being in English, since the guy is American. :secret laugh: We were thinking he was going to get drawn as one of the little green kappa guys that appeared in the karaoke strips, but he surprised us with Kogasa-transformation powers! Poor Kogasa-san. Kyouko-marle gets to go have fun, while Kogasa-san is stuck doing "homework." Mizuki-san was really dedicated to making sure he got a chance to learn the song he was going to sing with UK. At least he got the time to learn the song a little better. Nothing like trying out new things, right?

That was a really cute Shou cosplayer. I'm like Mizuki-san, I'm too shy to approach cute girls. I always seem to mess it up, so I'm kinda edgy about it anymore. Must get more confidence, yes. And make sure not to get a Cirno-orb following me. :XD:

My moment of awesome is coming up soon! Looks like Mizuki-san drew us all as arriving together, even though we went in two separate groups. I was with the first group, along with Sefam (Star Sapphire) and K (Yuka Kazami), and Mizuki-san and Sola (Kyouko Kasodani) were in the second group. I have no idea of the Momiji drawn is me or Momi. I guess Momi, since again, short hair. I like traveling in cosplay, though, that probably has a bit to do with how I like being able to wear feminine clothing. It doesn't really draw as much attention as one might think.

Ha ha, very funny, Cirno. I can't blame Kogasa-san for mixing up the dates; I don't really think about time zone differences while I'm traveling, beyond making sure I set my watch. My cell phone sets itself, and my laptop sets itself after I connect it to the Internet. On that note, I can't remember if I chanced the time zones back on it after I got back from my last trip. Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Genichiro on June 16, 2012, 00:48
Oh yeah, the gift of corn. To supply a little context for this one:
Quote from: purvis
Hahahahahaha, holy [crap], it got into the comic.
I put E-mouse up to doing this to perpetuate an old tradition from a forum he and I used to go to. Corn was an well respected meme there, and it became kind of a rallying point for us during IRL meet-ups. At one meet-up (Otakon 2003, I think?), one of our members brought cans of corn and passed them out. So a friend and I took them and started bartering with them in the artists alley for sketches, and later with cosplayers for their props, trying to outdo each other with the stuff we got.
So I figured I might as well direct Mus to offer one to Mizuki as a continuation of this fine tradition.
I thought it was a reference to this: http://www.youtube.com/v/7KTB3t1t7dk?version=3&hl=en_US
and this: http://www.youtube.com/v/ryAO8Zmv4ag?version=3&hl=en_US
We were struggling not to laugh too hard; Sola was having a hard time explaining the gift to Mizuki-san. Don't know why E-Mouse was drawn as Momiji, though. He was cosplaying as Chen. I was there as Momiji at the time, so maybe Mizuki-san's memory was a little off. :XD:

I think a lot of us were hoping for some kind of Charles Barkley reference when Maullar made his appearance. I was hoping Mizuki-san would draw UK and Sola vs. Maullar (Maullar slammed a song UK and Sola were singing, despite the karaoke staff not wanting to allow them to do it). Maullar is an awesome artist.

Kogasa-san rated a lot better than I would. I sound like someone stepping on Chen's tails. I'm not really talented at singing. I could when I was a kid; sang in the shower all the time and kept working to improve. Then I found out there I could be heard throughout the house, so I stopped out of embarrassment, and my voice started getting worse and worse over time from lack of use. I can't sing now to save myself. :TT TT:

I can't wait to see what happens! I'm glad Sanae-san gets to come along for the ride this time. Having her present via Yin-yang Orb was fun, but it's much better to have her there in person. Someone has to save Kogasa-san from herself, right?

Well, when Kogasa-san thinks about it like that, I guess she has no choice but to bring Sanae-san along for the ride. It's a good thing it didn't raise the costs too much.
Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san

Yeah, Kogasa has to find a way to keep the travel costs down... since she's probably going to be buying a lot of food, even if Sanae tries to prevent her from doing so.

When you think about it, having Sanae along, the food costs might go down enough to pay for the extra person traveling. She won't let Kogasa-san violate her diet that much! :)

Yeah, once Sanae-san sees penguins, that's the end of it. She'll spend, and then Kogasa-san will spend, and it'll be game over for their wallets. As for the gran class, given what could happen when they are there, it's best for Kogasa-san to keep her money; the ride there isn't as important as making sure she has a great time when she gets there, right?

Yeah, spending that kind of money on the trip, when the real fun is to be had at the destination, wouldn't be so smart. Kogasa is making the right choice... though, I wonder how much money Ran has to suggest it so easily?

Time for a new journey for Kogasa-san! I have to wonder just what kind of gags will come up with Kogasa-san having to take Chen along for the ride. I also wonder who she will invite. Would be nice to see some old faces show up again!

I can't wait to see who Kogasa brings along with her for her trip to the Tokyo Sky Tree. Mizuki-san says not much happened, but I'm sure he'll find a way to present in a fun manner.

I really hope Sanae-san is able to find a way to see the penguins, or at least have Kogasa-san takes some more pictures for her (though she ended up missing out on the penguins for the Boston trip). If all else fails, maybe Kogasa-san can find another time in the near future to take Sanae-san to an aquarium, so she can get a chance to see some penguins, after missing out twice. :XD:

Looks like no one is safe from Sanaelation, including Yuyuko-sama. She just wants to keep Kogasa-san at a healthy weight. There's nothing wrong with that, right? If only Sanae-san and Yuyuko-sama could agree on what Kogasa-san's weight should be! :you seem to be seri

Suika-san does it all, huh? Looks like Kogasa-san got a little more than just a little souvenir. She should buy stuff at random places more often (as long as Sanae-san approves!).

I'm sure Suika was just happy to have people come to the factory during the off season. Probably wasn't getting too many visitors at the time.

Gotta be careful about mention other girls when you're in a relationship with a girl. Kinda ends badly... I've learned this one the hard way more than once. :omg:

Title: Re: Hang In There, Kogasa-san
Post by: Zen on November 01, 2012, 13:53
Reminds me of a certain wedding my wife and I went to when we were still dating. I informed her before hand that the bride and I had a brief fling way back when I was in 7th grade and she was in 9th (really, just a one time thing... one of my first "experiences", as I was quite young. Not a real relationship or anything beyond third base) During the wedding, I realized that the maid of honor was also an ex. Similar situation, just two years later when I was in 9th and she was in 11th. I mentioned that to her as well, in case she happened to make a comment...
So, anyway, there we were at the reception, and I was getting drinks next to another one of the bride's maids. She looked at me, did a double take, then said, "Excuse me, are you [insert Zen's real name here]?" I answered in the affirmative and she replied that she was "Lisa, Lisa [I can't remember her last name to save my neck now...]" We proceeded to be shocked. She asked me whether I was a friend of the bride or groom. I replied bride, we went to the same church growing up. She said she was a friend of the bride's from college. Small world!
She was a girl that I "dated" for about 6 months when I was in 11th grade. (I think she was in 12th at the time) We met at a church summer camp, fell in love, and had a rather expensive, phone call wise, long distance relationship for most of that year. We only saw each other three or four times after the camp and it was an emotionally brutal relationship. Since I had never had a "real" girlfriend, having one that I couldn't ever see and wasn't able to drive to see was horrible. (Since I have a late birthday, I was not able to drive until I was in 11th grade. I didn't really have permission for long trips until I was a senior.) Needless to say, this relationship ended in failure and much sadness...
So, I took the drinks back to the table and introduced her to my [now wife] girlfriend. She looked at me with a look of mock anger, that didn't hide the laugh in her eyes one bit, and asked if there were any other ex-girlfriends that were part of the wedding party? I swore that she had just met about two-thirds of my earlier girlfriends! Really, it was massively uncomfortable for me, but luckily, my wife has a good sense of humor. (The fact that we had met one of my two prior "serious" girlfriends at a movie theater just a couple of weeks earlier didn't help!)
It really looked like I was some sort of womanizer, when my recollection of my high school and jr. high years is more akin to the life of a monk! LOL!

Whoa, Zen's a player. Well, he is compared to me; I had all of one girlfriend while I was in public school. No regrets, though; I think I was better off, anyway. :XD:
As for today's Kogasa-san comic, that sure looked like it could have been a date. I do hang out with love interests in a non-romantic fashion all the time, though, so it doesn't have to be a date. I would still tread carefully with telling any of that to Sanae-san, though. :omg:
